Pianist and composer.
Born at the end of the 1970s in the Liège region, Yannick Schyns currently lives in Brussels. He performs his musical activities as a pianist in various projects, alongside his activities as a composer and arranger. He plays regularly throughout Belgium and abroad. His numerous activities in musical fields as diverse as jazz, soul music, classical music, traditional-folk" music of Western Europe, salsa, cabaret, or even theater and cinema music, gradually made him an eclectic musician whose musical language is imbued with all these influences.
He was trained on classical piano by Piet Kuijken and George Van Dam, and studied jazz with Nathalie Loriers and Eric Legnini. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in jazz piano with great distinction. He also holds a director's diploma (Insas). He continues to supplement his knowledge through internships and masterclasses (world music, arrangement for orchestra, film music, musical analysis, etc.). As a composer, Yannick Schyns writes music for his own projects (jazz, cabaret, songs, orchestra, string quartet), and is regularly called upon to compose or make arrangements for others (arrangement for orchestra and choirs of titles from ABBA, Venusberg / pop cabaret, Julie Chemin album / French song, Remua / orchestra / children's choir, Cookies Films / RTBF, film scores, Alexi Van Stratum / theater music.)
In 2013, he won the prize for Best Film Music for the short film "Premier Pas" by Grégory Lecocq (Naousson International Film Festival, Greece, 250 films in competition.) In 2014, with his jazz quintet, he released a first album entitled "Stories & Pictures", where he gives free rein to his inspiration and performs his instrumental compositions. He has also been involved for many years in the activities of various Belgian musical associations. (Les Lundis d’Hortense, the Facir, Belgian World Music Network, Belgian Screen Composers Guild, Sbam). He is also an amateur flautist.... And more recently, a bagpipe player... With these instruments, he plays the so-called "traditional-folk" music of Western Europe.
At the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, Yannick Schyns teaches Jazz Harmony and Practical Jazz Harmony in the Jazz department, Music Writing in the Classical and Contemporary Music department, and Specialized Didactics for General Jazz Training in the Pedagogy department.
