Salvatore Sclafani was born in Palermo (Italy) in 1991. He began his musical studies at the Conservatory of his native city where he obtained a Diploma in Piano in 2012 and a Master in Piano in 2014, both cum laude.
From 2014 to 2017, he continues his studies in Belgium in the class of Éliane Reyes at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he obtains a Master's degree in Piano with La plus grande distinction and a Master's degree in Piano Pedagogy with Grande distinction. At the same time, between 2013 and 2016, he refines his skills with the pianist Roberto Plano at the Accademia Musicale Varesina. From 2017 to 2019, he follows a Concertmusicus course in Piano at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, in the class of Boyan Vodenitcharov, and an advanced course in Chamber Music at the Orpheus Instituut in Ghent.
Doctoral student in Art and Art Sciences at the Free University of Brussels and the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, his research focuses on the articulation between Argentine musical folklore and modernism in the piano repertoire of Alberto Ginastera and other Argentine composers of the 20th century. He participates in conferences and scientific activities in Belgium, France, Georgia, Serbia, and the UK. He is one of the founders of the international collective SONUS dedicated to the diffusion of the music of Carlos Guastavino and other important Latin American composers.
Between 2017 and 2019, he teaches piano at academies and conservatories in Belgium and France. Since 2019, he is a full professor of piano (PEA) at the Conservatoire de Maubeuge (France) and, since 2020, a piano teaching assistant of Eliane Reyes’piano class at Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
Winner of several national and international competitions, including the Concours-Festival Répertoire Pianistique Moderne de Paris (France), the Concours de la Fondation Andrée Charlier de Charleroi, the Eliodoro Sollima International Competition in Enna and the Caraglio International Competition (Italy), he performs in solo concerts, duos, chamber music ensembles and conference-concerts in Italy, Belgium, France, and Sweden: among others, in the Sale Apollinee of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Auditorium Rai and the Instituto Cervantes in Palermo; the Great Hall of the Royal Conservatory, the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, Flagey, the Palais des Académies and the Italian Institute of Culture in Brussels; the Auditorium of the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Paris; the Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Trollhättan.
Together with Caterina Roberti, he is the founder of Due di Duo, a duo dedicated to the less explored repertoire for four hands and two pianos.
He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages and Literature from the University of Palermo (cum laude). Passionate about writing and radio, he is an editor for the online magazine TGmusic.it, the magazine Suonare News and the Cremona Musica festival (where he is also a radio presenter); he conducts interviews and is interested in music popularisation, concert reviews, and discographic productions. During the 2021-22 season, he participated as a guest on the Musiq3 program Table d'écoute.
