Marie Avril graduated from the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles in 2008 with a Master's degree in Theatre and Speech Arts.
A versatile artist, Marie acts, directs, writes, has her own projects, teaches and dances Argentine tango.
She has been directed on Belgian and French stages by Philippe Blasband, Cécile Van Snick, Nele Paxinou, Clément Manuel, Daniel Scahaise, Alan Bourgeois, Claude Enuset, Yann Dénécé, Ronan Viard and others.
Her most memorable role was undoubtedly that of Camille Claudel in the play Camille, which she performed throughout Belgium and at the Metz opera house. Other highlights include two one-woman productions: ‘Ogresse’ by Philippe Blasband and ‘L'homme semence’ by Violette Ailhaud.
Marie also works as a voice actress, performing in dramas for France Culture, dubbing and voicing documentaries for France Télévisions. She also plays in a podcast she wrote with Philippe Blasband and Anne Fournier.
Marie is an inquisitive artist who cares deeply about her time, and for some years now she has been creating her own projects on social issues.
After supporting a number of grassroots arts projects in Morocco to promote access to culture for as many people as possible, Marie created and initiated a multi-disciplinary project (show, exhibition and film) in Brussels with homeless women, ‘La Cité des Dames’, which she then co-directed with Lénaïc Brulé. They are currently doing research for another theatre project on new family patterns.
Whether she's directing participatory theatre or working on her own writing projects, Marie loves working from reality.
She is currently working on a documentary show, Oskar, about parental kidnapping in Europe, the result of four years of research, which will be performed for the first time in 2025.
Teaching is an important part of her work. She has been teaching theatre to adults and children for many years, and writes tailor-made plays for them. Marie teaches declamation at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
She also has a background in communications, which enabled her to work for 6 years as a press attaché and communications officer: three years for France Télévisions in Paris and three years in Casablanca for the French Cultural Centre (Institut Français).
