Gordon Fantini

Biography

Gordon Fantini started playing the bassoon at the age of 14, after having studied the piano for five years. In 2004 he studied with Prof. Leonardo Dosso in the Conservatory G. Verdi in his hometown of Milano where he achieved the Diploma with honours. He perfections his studies with Sergio Azzolini, Carlo Colombo and takes masterclass from many prominent bassoon players.
Throughout his career, Fantini won several important prizes such as 1st prize in his category in the World Music Competition (Vienna), The Manhattan International Festival and the Sàndor Vègh Competition (president of jury Ivàn Fischer) in Budapest which will see him to perform as soloist with the prestigious Budapest Festival Orchestra.

He collaborated and collaborates as solo bassoonist in orchestras all over the world: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (London), Rotterdam Philarmonic Orchestra, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini (Parma), the Verbier Chamber Festival Orchestra, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Brussels Philarmonic, Malaysian Philarmonic Orchestra ... And as guest bassoonist at the Berner Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the KammerOrchester Basel, Orchestre de La Suisse Romande and others. He also won the auditions and took part in various festivals: Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Sion Festival by invitation of Pavel Vernikov, Amiata Piano Festival (Tuscany), the Schleswig Holstein International Music Festival, the Morellino Classica International Festival (Tuscany), The Verbier Festival Orchestra...
As soloist, he performed in Colombo (Sri Lanka), with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, the Belgian National Orchestra...

In February 2020 he won the position of Solo Bassoon, Section Leader at the Belgian National Orchestra, Brussels. From September 2020 he became an artist member of the Brussels Muzieque in which he founded the Unorthodox Quartet playing across Belgium and Italy.
In September 2022 he won the position as teacher of bassoon at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.
Gordon has the passion of the historical instruments and he was mentored by prof. Javier Zafra (KCB) and started his journey with the baroque and classical bassoon with important historical ensemble such as Il Gardellino , Freiburger Barack Orchester, Concerto Köln, Vespres d’Arnadì, Ensemble Sarbacanes.
