Born in a family of musicians, he started playing music at a very young age. At about 18, he was already playing violin, trumpet, electric bass, a bit of guitar and piano. He was highly familiar with Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Shostakovitch, the beatles, Jimi Hendrix before discovering… the world of jazz.
He went for a year of musical training at the jazz studio in Antwerp then entered the Brussels Royal Conservatory of music where he studied for five years.
During his classes, he started playing double bass in a theatre play called “ Le maître et Marguerite” at the Théâtre des Martyrs in Brussels and decided to make it part of his own cursus at the Conservatory.
He has been exploring various forms of music for fifteen years now such as jazz, world music or pop.
His current bands are Jean-Paul Estiévenart Trio, Les Violons de Bruxelles, Mohy/Liégeois/Gerstmans trio, Steve Houben Trio/Quartet, «Jazz For Kids» avec Manu Hermia et Pascal Mohy, NINA (tribute to Nina Simone) Olivier Colette Trio.
