Frédéric Degroote

Biography

Frédéric Degroote (Liège, 1988) holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music (oboe) from IMEP and a Master’s degree in Art History and Archaeology, with a specialisation in Musicology, from UCLouvain. A specialist in Renaissance and early Baroque periods, he is currently pursuing a doctoral thesis at University of Liège, thanks to a FRESH (F.R.S.-FNRS) grant, focusing on the Italian madrigal composed in the Low Countries (1581-1603).
Passionate about the connections between research, practice, and interpretation, he became the Artistic Director of Les Nuits de Septembre Early Music Festival in Liège, a member of Les Festivals de Wallonie, in 2019. Since 2022, he has been a regular contributor to the French magazine Diapason as a music critic.
Frédéric Degroote teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Supervision of dissertations in early and classical music, and Commented Auditions) and at ISFSC (Introduction to musical creation).
