Christian Gossart

Biography

Christian Gossart is one of the most renowned French clarinettists of his generation. Spotted by the greatest masters of the clarinet, he was taught from an early age by Guy Deplus and Michel Arrignon, both teachers at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris and soloists at the Paris Opera. He went on to win several first prizes, as well as first prize in the U.F.A.M. international competition.
His remarkable precociousness led him to take up the position of solo clarinet in the Concerts Lamoureux orchestra in Paris at the age of 18. The following year, at the age of 19, he was brilliantly appointed principal clarinet with the Orchestre National de Lille.
Since then, as an orchestral musician, he has been invited as a soloist in prestigious orchestras (Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de Belgique, etc.).
He has always attached great importance to the transmission of knowledge in his field, and it was natural for him to turn to teaching. He teaches at the Ecole Supérieure de Musique et de Danse de Lille (ESMD) and at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.
He has a passion for chamber music and, in parallel with his career with the orchestra, has developed a number of musical projects with various ensembles and renowned artists such as the Parisii Quartet, the Elysée Quartet, the Cappa Trio, the Opus 62 String Sextet and the pianist Cédric Tiberghien.
He performs regularly in France and abroad as a soloist with orchestra. A regular guest of the Orchestre National de Lille, he has performed concertos by Copland, Weber and Milhaud, Max-Bruch's double concerto with viola, Rossini's Introduction, Theme and Variations, etc. He has also been commissioned by contemporary composers such as Michel Lysight, La fille du roi d'Ecosse, and for premieres by Thierry Escaich ( Visions nocturnes, L'heure suprême ) , Anthony Girard,( Berger de la divine constellation) creation of the septet for clarinet and string sextet ( Séquences ) by Jean-louis Petit, Eclectic in his choices, this leads him to progress in original ways (Argentine tango concerts with Adrien Politi's ensemble).
