Improvisation in all its forms
Monday 21 to Thursday 24 October 2024
The question of improvisation has been of particular concern to the world of early music for several years now. While the historical relevance of improvisation seems obvious, musicians and teachers are seeking to update and develop their practices. How can improvisation be made evident in musical practice? Where does our department stand on this issue? Are we at the forefront of this visible evolution in early music? What teaching methods do we offer? How can we encourage people to become involved in this long-term process?
Monday 21 October is open to the public
At 9.15am, after a presentation of the symposium by the Director of the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, Marc Vanscheeuwijck will give a lecture on improvisation between 1400 and 1800, its history and context. This will be followed by a second lecture by Benoit Laurent on The contribution of historical improvisation practices to the interpretation of music from the period 1600-1800.
Starting at 1.30pm, Benoit Laurent, Thomas Walbroeck, Thomas Baete, Pierre Beaubatie, Aldo
Platteau and Paolo Zanzu will present a series of lectures and workshops on the teaching
in the Early Music Department of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
Welcome to the plenary session on Monday 21 October, in the auditorium of the rue du Chêne.
