This concert is like a painting of the viola in three parts. By contrasting three moods deployed in three scenic spaces, the triptych offers an intimate universe, a close-up listening to this instrument ‘with an aftertaste of wood, earth and tannin’ (Ligeti). Exploring human rituals, this programme unfolds like a life cycle, mixing transcriptions from the past and works from the present, with an emphasis on contemporary works.
