Power Structures in Arts Education
Higher arts education offers students a stimulating and caring environment in which to develop and flourish with confidence and creativity. In reality, they sometimes find themselves in contexts that are neither safe nor inclusive. Petra Van Brabandt discusses various myths in the arts and the resulting potential for abuse of power. Through the analysis of exemplary cases, discriminating and violent dominant codes, she questions the power structures in artistic collaborations as well as in higher education in the arts.
