Mariano Rey started his studies of the clarinet at 7 with Carlos Rey, his father, and went on studying with Frogioni, Tow, Deplus, Arrignon and Drucker, and Chamber Music with Lysy.
He entered the Mar del Plata Symphony Orchestra at 11, and 19 he joined the National Symphony Orchestra. In 1993 he entered the Colon Theatre Philarmonic Orchestra, and became Associate Clarinetist at 21. He was appointed Principal in 2002, holding this possition ever since.
Rey has appeared as soloist and with orchestras in France, Germany, Portugal, Chile, Perú, Colombia, Brazil and Uruguay, and in the Netherlands and Austria. He also playd with the Saint Petersburg Philarmonic and the Israel Philarmonic Orchestras.
For 30 years he has been teaching the clarinet, the saxo, chamber music and orchestral repertoire, in Argentina and abroad. In 1998 he became Professor at the reknown Intituto Superior de Arte at the Colon Theatre.
He was honored with 14 awards and has played with very important conductors and soloists, having recorded 46 proyects, among them “Musica Argentina para Clarinete y Orquestra” and “Trio Tango ZAR”.
Currently, he is General Director of the Congreso Internacional de Clarinetistas de Buenos Aires (CICBA) and has been Buffet Group and Vandoren’s artist for many years.
