Biography
Jun Kanno enjoys an international reputation as a concert pianist.
A native of Japan who has lived in Paris for many years (recitals at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Salle Gaveau), he is a regular guest in many artistic centres including Salzburg, Tokyo, London, New York, Geneva, Barcelona, Brussels, Rome and Florence.
After graduating from Toho University in Tokyo, he met Olivier Messiaen and Yvonne Loriod, who encouraged him to continue his studies in France. He entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won first prize in piano and first prize in chamber music. Jun Kanno then went on to perfect his skills with Vlado Perlemuter and Gyorgy Sebok.
After winning various international prizes, he played with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Krakow National Orchestra, the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic. His chamber music partners include the Vienna Quartet, the Salzburg Mozarteum Quartet, Pierre Amoyal, Werner Hink, Vladimir Mendelssohn and Frank Stadler. Also renowned as a fortepianist, Jun Kanno collaborates actively with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation.
Jun Kanno is regularly invited to sit on the jury of international competitions (Viotti, London, Porto, Messiaen). He is also very passionate about teaching, and his performance courses are a great success everywhere.
His recordings in France, Switzerland and Japan cover a repertoire ranging from Bach to Messiaen. The complete works of Messiaen's ‘Vingt regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus’ and Debussy's ‘Préludes’, recently released, have been enthusiastically received by critics and audiences alike.
