Journées de la curiosité - Traditional Argentine music and modernism: Alberto Ginastera's piano output between 1937 and 1957

Now in its fourth year, the "Journées de la curiosité" is an annual presentation of students’ final year work, focusing this year on research that leads to a concrete artistic result: interdepartmental artistic projects, compositions, critical editions and transcriptions. It will illustrate the liveliness of cross-disciplinary research between the different artistic disciplines taught at the Conservatoire. During these Journées de la curiosité, you can also discover our doctoral students at 3 exceptional concerts linked to their thesis work in Art and Art Sciences.

The piano works of Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983) are an example of the modernist re-working of traditional Argentine music.
In particular, those composed between 1937 and 1957, characterised by the stylisation of melodic and rhythmic aspects of Argentine songs and dances in a language marked by the emancipation of dissonance and metrical complexity.
The allusion to Argentine musical identity, filtered through the prism of Ginastera, implies a reflection on the interpretation of these compositions. In this concert with commentary, Salvatore Sclafani will present the evolution of his research from his initial, practical contact with traditional Argentine music to its current phase, in which he studies its impact on the modernist style of this production.
