Polish clarinetitst and conductor Jan Jakub Bokun has appeared through most european countries, USA, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, Chile and Argentina.
He studied the clarinet with Mieczyslaw Stachura at the Wroclaw Academy of Music and continued his studies with Guy Dangain at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. In May 2001 he received the Master of Music in Conducting degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was awarded a fellowship to the American Academy for Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival and received a scholarship which enabled him to study with Kurt Masur and James Levine at Verbier Academy in Switzerland.
As a conductor Jan Jakub Bokun has appeared with many polish chamber and symphonic ensembles, including the Wratislavia, Ricordanza, Elblag, Radom and Slupsk Chamber Orchestras, Szczecin’s Camerata Nova, Wroclaw, Bialystok, Bydgoszcz, Kielce, Plock, Kalisz, Olsztyn, Lublin, Koszalin, Jelenia Góra, Baltic and Sudettic Philharmonic Orchestras in Poland, the Martinu Filharmonie Zlin, Ceske Budejovice Chamber Philharmonic and the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc in the Czech Republic. In February 2010 Bokun made his debut with the Prague Philharmonia.
He has won prizes, as both soloist and chamber musician, at competitions in Wroclaw, Wloszakowice, Enschede and Mt. Pleasant. He was a prizewinner at the Third Witold Lutoslawski Conducting Competition in Bialystok, Poland, where he also received the Orchestra Award. He has perfected his skills at numerous master classes given by such outstanding artists as Sergiu Celibidache, Michael Stern, Philippe Cuper, Guy Deplus, Walter Boeykens, Michael Collins, Béla Kovàcs i Peter-Marc Dijcks. Three times - in Ostend, Stockholm and Tokio he was the Polish representative at the World Clarinet Congress Clarinetfest . He has been invited to give masterclasses in Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Spain, Mexico, Serbia and at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.Mr. Bokun has recorded for Polish Radio and TV. He has released 10 solo albums with Koch Classics , JBRecords and DUX, all received with great critical acclaim. His honours include a prize of the Foundation of Polish Culture , the Jan Adolf Górecki Scholarship and grants from the Polish Ministry of Culture and the French Government.Jan Jakub Bokun is on the faculty of the Wroclaw Academy of Music where he teaches clarinet and chamber music.
